7 FACTS WE BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THE FRENCH LANGUAGE!

French is one of the six official languages of the United Nations and yet, only 25% who took
part in the famous French Revolution spoke French! Read on to find out more.
  1. French, after English, is the only language taught in every continent of the world, with more than 50 countries recognizing it as their national language. 
  1. French was the official language of Britain for almost 300 years following the conquest of the Normans over the English in the Battle of Hastings in 1066 as a result of which 30-50% of words in the English language can be traced back to French. 
  1. The historic French novel, Les Misérables, contains one of the longest sentences in the world of literature comprising of 823 words without a period. 
  1. Kinshasa, the capital of The Democratic Republic of Congo, is the second largest French speaking city after Paris, followed by Montreal in Quebec, Canada and Brussels in Belgium. 
  1. The inventors of the Hot Air Balloon, Cinema, Smart Cards, HDTV and more are all native French speakers. 
  1. French was the first language ever to have an official ruling body known as The French Academy established in 1635. This led to many other languages following in their footsteps. 
  1. The world famous dance form Ballet was formalized in France which resulted in an impressionable amount of terminology being in French, therefore having the performer to learn the French language along his or her journey.
