Designing the Layout of Your House To Benefit Your Family

Houses with auspicious floor plans can create excellent feng shui for different members of
the family and there are several feng shui methods available to assist you. You can design the layout to benefit certain family methods according to the pa kua, according to your astrological animal sign or according to one of the compass formula methods.

The first thing of course is to identify the different sectors of your house accurately based on compass directions. Usually, a house can be divided into nine different sectors with eight of these being directional sectors plus a central sector. This follows the lo shu grid and each sector represents one of the compass directions. You must use a good compass and if possible, stand in the center of your house to get your orientations and then mark them on a copy of your floor plan. This makes it much easier to decide who to put where – the best location for your eldest son or daughter etc. Remember that the most auspicious sector should be reserved for the one who brings in the money, the dining room and family room ( or rooms that you use and occupy frequently).

If you use the Pa Kua method (based on the later heaven arrangement of trigrams), for example, it requires you to place the father (or patriarch) in the northwest corner of the house and the mother in the southwest, although the mother can also stay in the northwest. The eldest son should sleep in the east and the eldest daughter should sleep in the southeast and so on. Using the pa kua is one of the easiest methods to use in the selection of sectors most beneficial for each family member.

Find your animal’s
astrological direction

Using the Astrology Wheel is also an excellent method to demarcate a house layout. Superimpose the wheel over the floor plan of the whole house to determine which sector is best suited to each member of the family. You’ll place the rat in the north, horse in the south, rabbit in the east and rooster in the west while other animal signs are placed in the secondary directions. Thus, if you are a rat, you should sleep in a room placed north.

When using the Eight Mansions formula, you will take into account the auspicious and inauspicious directions of each member of the family based on their date of birth and kua number. According to the Eight Mansions formula, everyone is either an east or west group person.

Finally, a very powerful method that you can use is the Flying Star formula. This addresses the time dimensions of feng shui and it is extremely potent. Why? It enables us to keep current on the changing energies that occur over time. It requires that you know how to read the natal charts of houses that identify the sectors most suitable for wealth luck, relationship luck, health luck and so on. So, while there are lots of methods to choose from, the very best way to go about designing your house layout is to be familiar with all of these different methods and try to incorporate all of them into a balanced feng shui design.
