More About the Mystic Knot

Some people call this the “endless knot” as it is said to “swallow its own tail”.
It is endless, because there is no beginning and no end reflecting the Buddhist philosophy that existence is one endless run of birth and rebirth, also known as samsara.  It is also one of the eight auspicious Buddhist symbols.

Spiritually, this knot is a wonderful reminder for those of us wishing to escape samsara and the cycle of endless rebirth to begin to seek ways to be free from it.  Buddhists of all traditions look to attain such freedom.  You can also find the endless knot symbol on the breast of the Hindu deity Vishnu along with it being one of the eight signs on the sole of Buddha’s feet.

The mystic knot is also associated with endless love – a love so wonderful that it has no beginning and no end. What a romantic concept!  Many couples place the mystic knot in their bedrooms to symbolize a long, happy and uninterrupted relationship…without separation or suffering.

The endless knot is also thought to be a lucky knot.  You will find it used as an ornamental symbol in a variety of ways – woven into carpets, carved on furniture, painted on screens or canvasses, embroidered on clothing and of course in many styles and types of jewelry.

Consider the best way to use this wonderful symbol in your home or on your person.  You might want to place it in the southwest corner of your bedroom as it is much like the double happiness symbol in that regard.  Whatever you decide, just having this symbol in your home is a blessing!

To your forever happiness!

Lillian
