The Powerful, Auspicious and Mighty Chi Lin

Image:
The Chi Lin is also called the dragon horse, or the Chinese unicorn. This fabulous creature
is not only a symbol of longevity but an omen of good fortune and great spiritual wisdom. In China, the Chi Lin is regarded as one of the four great mythical creatures that is believed to be endowed with mystical powers.

Going back in history, this creature is so special that it is often mentioned in many legends such as the birth of Confucius or how it helped the emperor Fu Hsi. Some believe that Confucius’ mother became pregnant by stepping onto the footsteps of the dragon horse after she returned from a year-long religious retreat in the mountains; and a dragon horse is said to have come from the Yellow River and appeared to Fu Hsi (the founder of the I Ching)with a mystical map from which the emperor was able to develop wonderful methods to improve harvests and use water to bring great wealth. In Buddhist texts the dragon horse is portrayed carrying the texts of wisdom.

Many people display the Chi Lin in their home because of its symbolic association with good fortune and its presence is said to attract the powerful cosmic breath of the dragon. Since we, as humans, lack the karma to actually “see” these wonderful creatures, we rely on manmade physical images to create their presence in our homes. And because they are SO POWERFUL, even just displaying their image is believed to create auspicious luck.

We also use the Chi Lin with the Pi Yao and Fu Dog – the three celestial guardians to overcome the Three Killings affliction – loss of wealth, loss of your good name and reputation and loss of someone you love. This year, the 3 Killings resides in the south and we recommend the Three Celestial Bells featuring the three celestial guardians. The symbolism of bells is very powerful as the sound emanating from them stops all bad vibrations caused by the Three killings.

The Chi Lin is endowed with great compassion for all and its presence in your home will instantly reduce all bad luck arising from poor astrological birth times. It is always displayed alone, never in pairs (do not confuse with the Fu dogs). Place a dragon horse in your living room in the north if you wish to enhance your career, in the east to improve your health and in the southeast to attract wealth luck. If you wish, you can display a small image on your office desk to bring good fortune. It is especially lucky for those who work in the military. If you know someone who is starting a new job or project, the dragon horse is an excellent gift to give them.
