The Feng Shui of EATING

Knowing when to dine and eat has chi implications…and thus is part of the feng shui of eating. Please note these pointers:

  1. Never eat before going to bed – eating exhausts the stomach and forces chi to gather in the tummy while you sleep. This creates crossed signals in the body and distracts the chi from flowing through the rest of the body…so that certain organs may suffer from lack of chi replenishment. Even worse, the chi that is concentrated in the stomach then becomes stagnant chi. This is certainly bad body feng shui.

  2. Always follow the Yin and Yang rhythms of the day and night. Basically a 24-hour cycle is divided into two yin and two yang cycles:

    Midnight – 6:00 a.m.yin rising to yang
    6:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noonyang
    12:00 noon – 6:00 p.m.yang arising to yin
    6:00 p.m. – Midnightyin

Since the human body follows the yin and yang rhythms of the day and night, it is beneficial to eat in the same rhythm as this cycle. This means it is most beneficial to eat when the body is yang or close to yang. It is not advisable to eat when the body is in the yin cycle. That is the time to rest.

  3. Avoid Excess Consumption of Food – never eat totally yin or totally yang foods as this represents excess at any moment in time. You must always respect the tai chi (yin/yang) of eating.

  4. Avoid drinking cold liquids after the YANG cycle – in fact many Chi Kung masters recommend giving up cold liquids all together. They believe cold liquids disrupt the flow of the Chi in the human body as it causes shocks and obstructions to manifest.

All the best,
Lillian
