How to Use Elements for Good Living/Family Room Feng Shui

Using elements is one of the easiest ways to improve and enhance your living/family room feng shui.

Use the 5-element productive cycle of colours to create a good flow of chi and select associated colour combinations according to each sector. East and southeast are wood sectors (green), south is fire (red), west and northwest are metal (white), southwest, northeast and center are earth (yellow) and north is water (blue, black).

East sector living/family room: This means this room is in the east sector of your home. It will benefit from an abundance of wood furniture and the colour green. Always have some plants and a display of flowers here. If the flowers are healthy and blooming it indicates that your projects and business will continue successfully. Since water supports wood in the productive cycle, blue carpets or curtains work well in this area. You can also use these suggestions if your room is in the southeast.

Red in south/southwest
for recognition luck

North Sector: Place a painting of a waterfall on the north wall of the room which signifies water is coming from the north and bringing wealth. It is even more auspicious if your water star happens to be located here. Wood furniture works well here as it is supported by the water element of the north.

South Sector: If your family/living room is in the south sector, then consider using the colour red in your décor. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming but should be the dominant colour.

These touches of colour will activate the fire element and tap into recognition luck.

Red colour also works in the southwest. The southwest is an earth sector and fire supports earth in the productive cycle bringing positive feng shui benefits. You can add some ochre or mustard colours to signify the earth element as well.

West Sector: The element of the west is metal so whites and greys work well here – also gold and silver touches are good. You can add some earth tones since earth supports metal but stay away from blues and reds here.

Always check the 5-element cycle using the chart above to determine what colours and furniture styles are best. Choosing appropriate colours according the the elements will create wonderful feng shui for you and your family…and it’s easy to do!

Happy decorating!
