Meditating on the Buddha
On the lotus, sun and moon seat visualize Shakyamuni Buddha. This is the historical Buddha who has attained perfect realizations and left this world a legacy of perfect teachings. He manifests the omniscient mind of all the Buddhas. He is the ultimate teacher, the guru and is therefore inseparable from your own guru. He shows us the unmistaken path and is infinitely compassionate towards you and everyone.
He wears the three robes of a monk. His face is beautiful and serene. He sees you and everyone with his peaceful gaze. His mind is clear and free of all critical thoughts, and he accepts you and everyone fully.
You may notice that his right hand touches the earth which shows his control over the maras (enemies of the mind) of desire. In his left hand, he holds a bowl of nectar, symbolizing conquest of “samsaric aggregates.” This refers to the constituents of our body and mind as we remain caught up in samara. We are still under the control and influence of karma and the three poisons – attachment, ignorance, and anger. His body is in the vajra posture which signifies that he has destroyed death and his own maras. The light beams that surround him signify that he is compassionately working for you and all being.
The Buddha’s Holy Mantra
Recite one rosary (108 times) as you visualize millions of golden light rays coming from the Buddha’s body and entering your body through the crown of your head. This mantra and action bring you a mountain of blessings!
Tadyatha Om Muni Muni Maha Muniye Svaha
We recite mantras to keep our minds engaged and focused as we develop our Buddha potential. We chant the mantra repeatedly because it takes time to transform the mind. When you chant this mantra regularly and with sincere motivation, it becomes a powerful catalyst to this mind transformation.
Love,
Lillian
