Feng Shui Kitchen Taboos

1. Your kitchen should never be located in the Northwest sector of the house.  When the kitchen is located here, it means there is fire – harmful fire at Heaven’s Gate. Heaven luck is channeled into the Northwest sector and if the kitchen is there it is pressing down on the good luck of the family.  It also interferes with the luck of the patriarch, because this is the sector of the father of the house. If your kitchen is in the Northwest, do try to reposition it and if this is impossible at least reposition the stove.


2. The kitchen should have good and sufficient lighting.  It must not be dark, okay? Always keep it well-lit so it is bright and airy…and the more spacious, the better.

3. Don’t place the stove either next to or directly opposite the sink or refrigerator. You don’t want fire and water energy to be in a confrontational situation.  Try not to have water next to the fire. In fact, the stove should be at least one foot away from the sink.

4. The stove should not face the main door, especially the knobs of the stove as this means all the luck goes out the front door. Consider this when planning your kitchen layout.


5. The mouth of the stove should face one of the best directions of the patriarch of the family.  This energizes the stove and makes the food cooked in it more auspicious.


6. Don’t energize your kitchen with feng shui symbols or mirrors.  No auspicious enhancers in the kitchen please, and you don’t want a mirror which will double the fire that is cooking your food. Mirrors also tend to attract wandering spirits which doesn’t bode well for the food being cooked.


7. Kitchens should be located in the back sector of the home – it’s ideal if they are located deep inside the home, but never in the middle of the home.


8. The stove should not be located directly under an exposed overhead beam -if you are cooking and there is an exposed beam on top of you, it’s really bad.  And even worse, if above that is a toilet. Cooking your food with the toilet directly above the stove is a big feng shui taboo!  And of course the stove should not directly face the door into any kind of toilet because that is not a good thing.
