We cover the Tai Sui in depth each year in our Fortune & Feng Shui horoscope books because having this knowledge is important and will help you avoid misfortune and disaster. As a friendly reminder, the Tai Sui is always located in the compass sub-direction of the animal sign that rules the year. 2020 is the Year of the Rat, thus the Tai Sui resides in N2 direction.
When we talk about “cultivating” and respecting the Tai Sui, we mean doing things that are constructive and productive in the direction where he is located. Since he is located in the North direction this year and the north’s element is water, it is appropriate to install a small water feature in the north. Following on, if the Tai Sui is in the South (during the year of the horse) then installing a new light there would be good. If he is in the west or northwest, you can place windchimes or auspicious images like a metal Pi Yao there. You get the idea. One thing you must never do is to face the Tai Sui directly as you will offend him deeply. Do not sit or sleep facing the north direction this year. It is believed that when you respect and cultivate the Tai Sui you will be rewarded with success and good fortune during the year, especially for the animal sign of the year. This year, it is particularly beneficial for the rat, but all signs should respect the Tai Sui.
Offending the Tai Sui means engaging in destructive activities in the North in 2020. These include digging holes or ponds, making renovations, creating loud noise and chopping down trees etc. Chopping down trees becomes even worse when the Tai Sui is in the East or Southeast which are the wood directions. So, digging a pond is not wise this year even though it involves the element of water. Rather place a small water feature in your north and avoid any construction. Put off any remodeling or reconstruction plans in the north until a later time. And once again do not face the Tai Sui under any circumstance – if you must move your bed or dining arrangement to avoid facing north please do so to stay safe.
This is a time of uncertainty with COVID-19 and all the changes taking place. We need all the help and protection we can get so do not inadvertently create any problems with the Tai Sui.
