The lotus is a simple and beautiful flower and the perfect symbol of purity.
It has very spiritual and religious connotations as well since the petals are said to represent the doctrine of Buddha’s teachings. In fact, the Buddha is often shown seated on a sacred lotus and his straight back and lower limbs folded in front is what is known as the “lotus posture.”Lotus Posture: The lotus posture is the most conducive for quieting the body and thus is used by many teachers and students during meditation. When the back is straight, the chi flows more easily through the body. Some find it difficult to sit like this and feel cramped or uncomfortable but with practice it can be done.
Om Mani Padme Hum |
Lotus Mantra: The mantra of the Compassionate Buddha is Om Mani Padme Hum. This is a six-syllabled Sanskrit mantra, and chanting it is a popular form of religious practice for monastics and lay persons throughout the world. In the Himalayas, you will find it carved onto rocks, painted on the sides of mountains and on prayer flags and prayer wheels. It’s not a difficult mantra to learn and is said to bring a rain of blessings. The Compassionate Buddha is known by different names in different areas of the world, like the Goddess of Mercy, Kuan Yin to the Chinese and in Tibetan Buddhism as Chenresig.
In feng shui, the lotus is said to express the purity of love. The lotus symbol can be incorporated into the feng shui design of your bedroom or living area in the form of a real or artificial plant/flower. There are many beautiful paintings of lotuses available today and having such an image in your home promotes a true feeling of contentment. It represents a perfect and very pure love.
