Basic Feng Shui Taboos Some Important Reminders

Observe the Proper Flow of Chi: Those of you who have studied with me or read

my books know the importance of chi, also known as “the dragon’s cosmic breath and that in order to be beneficial it must flow slowly and unimpeded throughout your home or office.  It must never flow in a straight line but rather meander its way along.  When chi gathers speed (when it flows in a straight line), it turns into malicious shar chi.  When it gets too wet or damp or too hot or dry it becomes stale and this is when illness can set in.

Door Configuration:  Because chi must never flow in a straight line, having two or three doors in a straight line is a no-no.  Three doors, especially with one opening onto another represents bad luck – especially if one of the doors is your main door and the other is your back door.

No Blockages:  If your plumbing does not work, fix it immediately.  When drains are blocked, the luck of the family suffers.

Mirrors are ok on
side walls but cannot
reflect main door

No Mirrors Facing the Front Door:  If a mirror directly reflects the main door, the chi that enters the home will fly straight out again.  Be careful about your mirror installations.  Hanging mirrors on a side wall in your entry way is fine – but they must never reflect the main door.

Living at the end of a road or cul-de-sac:  It’s best to avoid living at the end of a road or cul-de-sac where the chi may stagnate.  If you are experiencing bad luck, this type of configuration can magnify the bad luck as it symbolizes no way out of your problems.  If your luck is good, it should not matter, but why take the chance?

Living Between Two Taller Buildings: It is considered unbeneficial to live in a one-level home that is sandwiched between two multilevel or larger imposing homes.  These structures block the flow of benevolent chi towards your house and adversely affect your luck and well-being.  If this is the case, you can correct this by placing a bright light that shines upwards.

Avoid the T-Junction:  Avoid living in a home or building that directly faces an oncoming road as in doing so you form a classical T-junction.  This taboo is regarded as so harmful that the energy entering your home could have a lethal effect.  It is definitely a killing energy to avoid.  Correct this situation by planting some trees or building a wall to block your main door so the road hits your wall rather than your entrance.  Note: This deadly chi cannot affect you if your home is located higher than the road, on elevated land.

Avoid Basement Apartments and Flats:  Chi that stays below road level is never auspicious.  Avoid basement apartments unless there is a level garden to compensate for below-road-level apartment.  Sleeping below road level can cause bad-fortune chi so it is best to avoid this type of living arrangement altogether. Find a home with the bedrooms on the second floor or first floor but not below the first floor.

Avoid Living Close to Fast-Moving Traffic:  In general, it is not a good idea to live too close to major highways with fast-moving traffic as the chi will speed up and bring misfortune.  However, it is considered lucky to live near busy roads with slower traffic (as long as there are not a lot of traffic jams.)  Note that living near elevated roadways is considered very bad feng shui and if you live too close by you should plant tall trees between your house and the highway.

Although many of you are already familiar with these feng shui taboos it never hurts to be reminded of them as they can significantly alter your luck if not followed.
