If you wake up feeling tired and unrested, your bed and mattress could have a lot to do with it. Perhaps you are suffering from lower back pain or a lack of energy…it may be time to get a new bed! Here are some general feng shui guidelines to consider when shopping for a new bed.

Canopy beds offer protection

• Canopy style beds are excellent as they protect and shield you.
• A good headboard is desirable as it provides support from behind.
• Don’t position your bed as if it is “floating” in the center of the room – all beds
  should have a solid wall behind.
• Beds should be solid for good sleeping support

Using the productive cycle of the 5-element formula, here are the best bed styles for your animal sign:

Snake and Horse: These are “fire” signs, so a wooden bed is an excellent choice. No low to the ground beds (near the earth) as earth exhausts the fire element. Naturally, waterbeds for these fire signs are not appropriate.

Dog, Dragon, Ox and Sheep: These are earth signs so anything that represents fire will benefit this element. Wooden beds will exhaust them, especially if on a wood floor. Likewise, metal or brass beds are exhaustive. Think red in terms of duvet covers instead.

Boar and Rat: These are the water signs, so a brass or metal bed frame is an excellent choice. Wooden beds will exhaust them as well as anything of the fire sign. No red blankets or duvets for these two signs.

Waterbeds lack support & stability

Tiger & Rabbit: These two signs belong to the wood element so wooden beds and furniture are excellent for them. Water beds are not stabilized; thus, they are not considered a good feng shui choice despite the fact that water enhances wood. Instead choose blue sheets or a blue duvet cover to symbolically represent water. Naturally anything red or fire-related doesn’t work and will sap their energy.

Monkey & Rooster: These are the metal element signs, so anything earthy like beige or yellow is ok. White or grey sheets representing the metal element would be best along with a metal-framed bed. Water beds are a no-no due to instability and the fact that water suppresses metal.
