I thought it would be a good idea to review the importance of some aspects of dining room
feng shui as this is the room that represents the harmony and quality of relationships within the family. It is especially important in 2020, the Year of the Metal Rat with the Betrayal & Blood Star 7 in the middle of the annual feng shui chart, affecting the entire family. If you get this feng shui right, it will go a long way toward better family relationships between spouses and siblings and less jealousy and envy that can pull a family apart. Also, if your dining table is filled with abundance, the family will eat well and live well.
An Oval Shaped or Round Dining Table gives a little more flexibility for family members to face their lucky personal (sheng chi) directions and it’s easy to converse with everyone at the table. This table is also more suitable for sharing many dishes. All family members should know their kua number and try to face one of their auspicious directions.
Chairs Around the Dining Table should be auspicious with solid armrests and back support. A solid armrest and good back support suggest that as you sit down to eat you are secure and not falling off. Some modern designs today give an unstable feeling of little support. As you sit down to eat you should feel relaxed, yet secure - thus soft, cushy chairs are not ideal in the dining room.
Fancy Tablecloths and Chair Upholstery are not very practical in today’s lifestyle. Food stains if they occur are bad feng shui. Save your fancy linens for special occasions and be practical when choosing your chair upholstery.
Mirrors are a MUST! One of the best feng shui recommendations I can give you is to have a wall mirror on a side wall reflecting the food on the table and effectively doubling the amount of food. If you can mirror one entire wall, even better as this ensures in the reflection that you don’t cut off the heads or feet of the guests. A mirror will make your space feel much larger
Don’t ignore dining room feng shui. If you don’t have a proper dining room but instead have a breakfast nook or eating area connected to your living area or kitchen these same principles apply. In smaller homes this maintains the feeling of space while enjoying the yang energy from adjoining areas
Good Luck!
Lillian
