Maybe I am the only one who was puzzled by this at first, but when I started on the road to greater awareness, I was troubled by an apparent paradox.
On the one hand, I had read that mindfulness of the present moment was crucial in all areas of life. Yet, on the other hand I had also read that we should be focused on our future goals to see them through.
"How?", I wondered, "How can I be focused on the present moment and at the same time be focused on future goals?"
Gradually the answer began to make itself apparent. This is one of many of the marvelous paradoxes we encounter in life that only seem like paradoxes. I sometimes think these paradoxes are put in place to force us to greater understanding. To come to a full understanding of both the present moment and achieving goals, we must see through the apparent paradox.
The Law of Attraction, That universal force that attracts whatever we concentrate on whether we know it or not, is mostly influenced by our conscious and unconscious beliefs.
The trick is to believe that are goals are already here. We must use our imagination to envision that what we want is a fact, so that it seeps down into our unconscious.
Truthfully this must be done to such an extent that you may feel a little disoriented when you look around you and see that it's not in the actual physical world just yet. If that happens then you know you're on the right track.
Eckhart Tolle, the master of present moment awareness, explains it as a form of focus on what you are doing. Give yourself and your complete undivided attention to whatever task is at hand, knowing that it leads to the goal.
The result of what you are doing is not actually important. Don't focus on results. Focus on what you are doing. The end does not justify the means. The means to the ends are just as important as the ends themselves.
